What concrete costs on the Peninsula
Plain concrete typically costs around $75 to $150 per square metre laid, with coloured and exposed aggregate finishes above that. A full driveway is usually a $5,000 to $15,000 job depending on size, slope and what has to come out first. The cost guide breaks down every finish and the site factors that move the price.
Why local matters with concrete
Concrete is a one-shot trade. Once it is poured, there is no adjusting it, so the prep, the mix and the finish have to be right the first time. The Mornington Peninsula packs a lot of different ground into one shire: steep coastal blocks dropping away at Mount Martha, McCrae and Arthurs Seat, loose dune sand and limestone from Rye through to Portsea, red volcanic soil on the hinterland ridges at Red Hill and Main Ridge, and heavier clay loams on the Western Port side around Somerville, Tyabb and Hastings. The concreters we work with quote with those factors priced in, not discovered on the day.
Driveways, acreage and new estates
The Peninsula mixes three very different jobs. There are long driveways on sloped coastal blocks where grip and stormwater matter more than looks. There are acreage properties at Main Ridge, Red Hill and Moorooduc where the driveway can run a hundred metres or more and the budget decision is concrete at the house end, gravel beyond. And there are newer estates around Mornington, Somerville and Hastings where the house slab is done and the owner is pricing a driveway, shed base and alfresco slab in one go. Tell us which kind of job you have and it goes to a concreter suited to it.

You tell us what you are planning once. We pass it to an experienced, insured concreter who works your suburb, and they call you back with a price. Building work in Victoria is regulated by the Victorian Building Authority and by councils, and the thresholds for registration and permits depend on the job, so ask the concreter what your job needs and get it in the written quote before you sign.
